8:00am - 9:00am Neglect of Medical Care
Neglect of medical care is one of the most common situations encountered by paediatricians, whether in general or sub-speciality paediatrics, where the question may arise: is this a child protection issue? It is also one of the most complex issues to address. Professor Frasier will present an international perspective on this important issue.
9:30am - 10:30am Highlights of Recent Medical Child Protection Literature
Professor Frasier will discuss recent literature on abuse and neglect from a medical perspective, with a focus on literature likely to be relevant or useful for any paediatrician seeing a child for child protection concerns.
11:00am – 12:00pm Mimics of Child Abuse
Professor Frasier will present on a range of medical conditions which might be misinterpreted as manifestations of child abuse or neglect.
1:00pm - 3:00pm Complex Cases
This session enables you to present your own deidentified cases for discussion and feedback from a panel of contributors. Cases can come from any sphere of child protection – neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or any other aspect of child protection where you would value peer review, or believe the case offers some useful lessons that we could all learn from.
3:00pm – 4:00pm Panel
Professor Lori Frasier will chair a panel of paediatricians from small and large centres across New Zealand, to discuss all and any questions related to clinical practice and/or training in child protection, both here in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.
