Dr Patrick Kelly MBChB, FRACP, MD, ONZM Paediatrician, Course Director, Te Puaruruhau
Dr Patrick Kelly FRACP is a Paediatrician in Te Puaruruhau and Honorary Associate Professor in Paediatrics at the University of Auckland. For many years, Dr Kelly chaired the Child Protection Special Interest Group of the Paediatric Society of New Zealand, and was the first Clinical Leader for a National Managed Clinical Network in Child Protection in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
Dr Kelly first started working in this area in January 1992, after attending the very first DSAC training course run by Professor Astrid Heger. He has been continuously on the 24/7 child and adolescent sexual abuse roster for metropolitan Auckland for more than 25 years, and has often given evidence in criminal court as an expert witness in cases of alleged sexual abuse. Dr Kelly has been the convenor of this training course since 1996, and is the author of the sections on STI in children and child sexual abuse in the MEDSAC manual.
